Board of Directors, 2024-5

Elected Officers

President, Dan Pass

Dan is a tireless worker for the Chapter and as been a generous donor as well. He led the resurgence of this year’s Fly Tying Clinic, as well as organizing some “on the water” events. He is a guide, real estate broker, and hotel and fly shop owner. He defines the term “avid angler.”

Vice President, Bob (Mugsy) Becker

Bob is a long time participant in Trout Unlimited, having previously volunteered as President for the Lee Wulff Chapter of TU in the Chicago area. Bob has graciously volunteered to hold the VP position as we develop a succession strategy that makes the President and VP positions easier and less time consuming.

Married to Denise; attended Regis College. Besides fishing, Matt enjoys shooting sporting clays, handgun shooting, bird hunting (especially waterfowl) and playing golf.  His favorite fishing spots are Rocky Mountain National Park and all over the Carbondale area.

Secretary, Abby Nowlan

Born and raised in Vermont, Abby has spent over a decade working as a chef in several restaurants across the country. She has been a member of TU since 2019 and has been with WDTU since 2022.  As an avid angler and fly fishing guide, she hopes to use this role as secretary to contribute to TU’s important conservation work. When not fishing, she enjoys skiing and hiking with her husband and dog.

Conservation Director, Ashley Giles

Ashley is a Colorado native and daughter of a gold prospector (aka geologist), so she grew up exploring the watersheds of Colorado. She is a self-proclaimed “Champion of Rivers,” which lends itself to a lifelong love of fly fishing. In college Ashley studied limnology, conservation biology, and ecological restoration, and she works as an environmental scientist on wetland and river restoration projects. With WDTU, Ashley is involved in collaborative Clear Creek watershed projects, including the Integrated Water Management Plan. She is an average runner, avid gardener, closet floral designer, and dreams of being a goat farmer.

Previous President, Ed Calmus

Ed grew up in Pittsburgh and moved to Colorado after graduating from the University of Dayton with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later received an MBA degree from the University of Wyoming. Married to Jody, two daughters. Retired from University of Denver, where he directed Business Services. Ed’s passion is preserving the fly fishing experience.
