Trout Unlimited’s environmental education program is a gateway stewardship experience for students. It fosters a new generation of advocates for salmonids and the watersheds in which they live. Each year the Chapter sponsors and supports a TIC aquarium in a public school.
How it works: With the Chapter’s help, a faculty member sets up a cold-water aquarium. Trout eggs are shipped to the school and lesson plans developed around the growth of the fry. Students release the trout in the Spring.
Caring for the fish fosters a conservation ethic in the students, and the act of walking to a stream bank and directly releasing the fingerlings into the water makes a concrete connection between caring for the fish and caring for the water.
