SUMMARY:June Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:  Steve Schweitzer\nTopic:  Topwater! – Designing and Fishing Effective Topwater Bugs.\nGuest Tier: Walt Mueller. \nSteve Schweitzer has been part of the fly fishing retail and conservation industry for over 25 years\, including a key position as the V.P. of Sales & Marketing at Whiting Farms\, where he created the popular products “Bird Fur”\, “Fly Tyer’s Variety Pack” and the “Whiting Hackle Gauge”. \nSteve Schweitzer was born and raised in Ohio and spent his younger years fishing his parents’ farm pond for bass and bluegill with poppers. At age 7\, his grandfather taught him the craft of lure-making and he was hooked ever since. \nNow\, an avid fly fisherman and noted fly designer\, Steve enjoys backpacking\, hiking and writing about fly fishing and fly tying. Steve is author of the award-winning “A Fly Fishing Guide To Rocky Mountain National Park”\, and co-authored\, “A Fly Fishing Guide to Colorado’s Indian Peaks Wilderness Area” with Mike Kruise. His latest book is: “Designing Poppers\, Sliders\, and Divers.” \nWalt Mueller is the developer of the “milking egg” patterns. \nSpecial Addition to the meeting:  Mark Story will offer this: \nEver thought about buying a book on fishing or fly patterns but wished you could flip through it first?  Ever bought a book only to get it and find out it really wasn’t what you were looking for?  We’re going to try to address both of these situations at the June chapter meeting.  You’re invited to bring 2 or 3 of your favorite fishing or fly pattern books to the meeting.  We’ll set up a table and allow everyone to browse the selections.  Also\, I’ll put together a bibliography that can be downloaded or emailed out. \nWe’re not going to buy\, sell\, or loan these books – just peruse.  You’ll take your books home with you that night.  So\, if you’re interested in bringing some books for people to look at\, please affix you name to the front cover of each book. \nThank you and see you at the June chapter meeting. \nMark Story \nQuestions? mastory@comcast.net

SUMMARY:Joseph's Journey Annual Fishing Derby
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are needed!  This is probably one of the most gratifying events that our Chapter sponsors. No one ever regrets helping out at this outing. \n\n\nJoseph’s Journey is a make-a-wish type organization that offers a day away from the hospital for children who are critically ill accompanied by their families.  Our event is a fishing derby that takes place at lake Lehow\, near Chatfield Reservoir and Waterton Canyon.  CPW stocks the lake in advance of the derby to ensure the young anglers have a great day.  They are provided with a rod and reel.  Our job is to help them with whatever they need: casting\, setting a hook\, landing the fish and releasing it.  For that you will need to bring along a nipper\, forceps and a net. \n\n\nWe also provide lunch and snack for everyone who shows up.  This includes hamburgers\, brats\, hotdogs\, chips\, fruit etc etc.  We need volunteers to help cook. \n\nDue to heightened security concerns\, volunteers must be registered in advance.  If you would like to help\, contact Bob Untener directly at Grey1271@hotmail.com or at 303-517-0892.  He will get you registered as a volunteer and provide all the details.\n\nPS: Volunteers should wear a long-sleeve shirt with a WDTU logo embroidered on it.  If you do not have one\, contact Bob and we will try to help you out\, but do so as soon as possible.

This is a winner-takes-all contest in which the person holding the winning ticket wins a fabulous prize consisting of 35+ items ranging from big to small. \nThe highlight items: a handmade bamboo fly rod setup\, which includes 2 tips\,  a reel\, extra spool; a Tenkara fly rod with case. Other items are a handmade wooden fly box\, 20 dozen flies\, a guided river fly fishing trip\, a camera\, and a plethora of gadgets that every fly fisher needs.   Retail value is over $4\,000. \nTicket prices: \n\nOne Ticket: $5.00\nFive Tickets $20.00\n\n  \nThe drawing is held at the May Chapter meeting each year. You need not be present to win. This year’s May Chapter Meeting is on May 2nd.  We have been conducting the raffle since 1993\, and many people look forward to buying tickets at the Fly Fishing Show\, International Sportsmens Exposition\, chapter meetings and events\, and several other venues. \nThe funds raised are used for chapter projects and operations. Examples are the annual Joseph’s Journey fishing day for terminally ill children\, and several stream habitat improvement projects on Clear Creek. That’s a true winning combination. \nDirect questions to Bob Clark at ridenfish@msn.com\, or contact one of the chapter officers. \nBuy Tickets here.

SUMMARY:May Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:  Peter Jaacks.\nTopic:  Fly Fishing Alaska.\nGuest Tier: Vinnie Pachelli. \nThis meeting also features the Fantasy Raffle drawing! \nIn addition to the above\, Ben Hegelson of 5280 Angler guide service will give a short presentation about the “Mind the Redd” movement to protect wild fish reproduction. \n \nBorn and raised in Colorado\, Peter Jaacks started casting a fly rod as a teenager on the mountain streams and lakes of the Rocky Mountains. While attending Colorado State University\, Peter’s backyard expanded to the Western US\, spending free time from school chasing secret skiing glades and remote trout streams. Upon graduating from CSU\, Peter drove from Colorado to Alaska and spent the summer backpacking\, fishing\, and rafting around south-central Alaska. Upon returning to the lower 48\, Peter co-lead a National Geographic funded expedition floating the entire length of the Elwha River on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington to document the dam removal project and returning fishery there. In 2014\, Peter started working for Alaska’s Wild River Guides\, sharing adventures and fish stories with guests while moving across the awe-inspiring landscapes of southwest Alaska. When he is not fishing\, Peter can be found at the end of a long skin-track\, searching for powder in the Colorado backcountry. \nVinnie Pachelli is a member of WDTU and avid outdoorsman.
