SUMMARY:Down the Hatch Fly Fishing Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Orvis and Breckenridge Brewery are presenting the Down the Hatch Fly Fishing Film Festival (say that three times fast) on October 29th\, 2015.  The location is the Oriental Theater\, 4335 W 44th Ave\, Denver\, CO 80212.  The doors open at 6:00 pm.  There will be free food and local craft beer\, swag\, and raffle prizes from 6:30 to 7:30.  The films run from 7:30 to 9:00 .  The Admission is $25. A portion of the event proceeds will be donated to support Casting for Recovery\, a breast cancer survivor support group.

He is known for gonzo fishing story angles and has earned various awards\, including top “Excellence in Craft” honors for his fishing stories from the Outdoor Writers Association of America. His travels have taken him from the tip of Tierra del Fuego in Argentina\, to the Amazon jungle\, to above the Arctic Circle in Russia and Alaska. The Little Red Book of Fly Fishing\, which he co-wrote with the late Charlie Meyers\, former outdoors editor of The Denver Post\, is a fly-fishing bestseller\, now in its sixth printing. He also wrote The Orvis Guide to Fly Fishing for Carp.

DESCRIPTION:6:30 – Guest Tier -Eric Ishiwata\n7:00 – Our Speakers: Eric Ishiwata and Rick Matsumoto \nEric Ishiwata was raised in California\, Hawaii\, and Japan\, becoming a self-proclaimed surfer boy. But after receiving his PH.D. in political science from the University of Hawaii in 2005\, he accepted a job with Colorado State University. “After a year or so of moping around Colorado\, realizing that there was no surf\, two of my grad students took me fishing in Rocky Mountain National Park.” That day Eric didn’t catch anything except the fly-fishing bug\, and he has been fly fishing and tying ever since. Eric will be speaking about using spey/switch rods\, particularly for Rocky Mountain trout. \n  \nRick Matsumoto – Immediate Past President of Colorado Trout Unlimited will also give a presentation about the health of CTU. \nChapter Meetings are now at The American Mountaineering Center (AMC). DESCRIPTION:6:30 – Guest Tier -Steve Schweitzer      \n7:00 – Our Speakers: Steve Schweitzer and Mike Kruise on Fishing the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area \nSteve Schweitzer has been a part of the fly fishing industry since the early 1990s when he worked as a fly shop rat and contract fly tyer. He has held positions as the president of the Lee Wulff chapter of Trout Unlimited and Treasurer of the Illinois Council of T.U. \nHe once took a sabbatical from his day job as a consultant in the broadband industry to work as VP of Sales for Whiting Farms\, introducing popular products such as the Whiting Variety Pack\, Bird Fur and the Whiting Hackle Gauge. He has written for various newspapers and periodicals including The Wall Street Journal and Fly Fisherman Magazine. He currently is contributing editor to Angling Trade Magazine and column writer for Southwest\, Eastern and Northwest Fly Fishing Magazines. He is author of A Fly Fishing Guide to Rocky Mountain National Park and co-author with Mike Kruise of A Fly Fishing Guide to Colorado’s Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. \nMike Kruise was born and raised in Longmont\, CO where he lives today with his wife Vickie\, and owns Laughing Grizzly Fly Shop. Mike learned hunt and fly fish from his father\, but perfected his fly fishing skills with his friend Scott Bley as they cut their teeth on the Big Thompson\, Poudre\, and St. Vrain. Mike has been professionally guiding and offering instruction since 2007\, and recently co-athored the book A Fly Fishing Guide to Colorado’s Indian Peaks Wilderness Area with Steve Schweitzer. When not in the shop or on a local stream\, you will find Mike hosting fishing trips to Chile\, Mexico\, the Bahamas\, Belize\, Alaska\, Canada\, and other amazing trout destinations. \nChapter Meetings are now at The American Mountaineering Center (AMC). SUMMARY:River Watchers Sample Clear Creek
DESCRIPTION:Colorado River Watch (CRW) \nis a cooperative program between the Colorado Watershed Assembly and the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). CRW organizes periodic water and invertebrate sampling from a large number of the Colorado’s streams and rivers. A multitude of organizations participate\, including schools\, various Trout Unlimited chapters\, and other nonprofit organizations. \nWest Denver TU’s efforts are led by member Gil Hassinger\, who says “It seems like a very long time since we have collected water samples on Clear Creek. Sampling will now occur on Wednesdays\, as requested by the volunteers.  The next sampling is on Wednesday\, April 22\, 9:00am.  Yes\, it’s a Wednesday\, so mark your calendars.” \nParking is located at Mayhem Gulch\, approximately 9.3 miles up Clear Creek Canyon from the intersection of 6th Ave and Highway 58 in Golden. Parking is limited\, so it pays to be on time. DESCRIPTION:6:30 – Special Event -Tenkara fishing demonstration\n7:00 – Our speaker: Aaron Kindell on South Park oil and gas development. \nAaron is the Colorado Field Coordinator for National TU’s Sportsmen’s Conservation Project or SCP. The SCP is essentially the public lands protection arm of TU. Aaron will be discussing the South Park Basin Master Leasing Plan.
