March Chapter Meeting – Annual Scholarship Award

The March chapter meeting features our annual award of a scholarship to a CSU graduate student of $4,000. Estevan Vigil In return, the student is giving a talk at the meeting.

The student awardee is Estevan Vigil.  His topic is “Gill lice in trout.”

Estevan Vigil was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Growing up he has always had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed activities such as fishing, hunting, and camping. After graduating high school he chose to pursue a career in natural resources. He moved to Leadville to attend Colorado Mountain College and graduated with an associate degree in natural resource management. After graduating from CMC, Estevan obtained his first fisheries technician position with Colorado Parks and Wildlife in Grand Junction. While working as a fisheries technician Estevan returned to school at Colorado Mesa University to earn a bachelors degree in biology in 2012. Estevan then received a position as a research associate at Colorado State University researching gill lice. He then decided to pursue a master’s degree in 2014 to continue his research. Estevan has become an expert on gill lice in Colorado and is nearing graduation at CSU. After graduation Estevan will continue his work in Colorado to enhance and protect the future of our fishery resources. Estevan will be presenting his graduate research on life history traits of gill lice and the status of gill lice infections in Colorado.

Instead of a fly tying demo, Mark Story will demonstrate how to construct your own lanyard.
