Chapter Meeting, Fishing Yellowstone’s Hot Spots

June 1, 2022 @ 6:30 pm 8:00 pm

At the conclusion of this meeting, we will be drawing the winners of the Fantasy Raffle.

Paul Bunker’s first visit to the park in 2003 with his brother John was a death march through Yellowstone, spent mostly driving around the park, wondering where to fish. After passing up places where there were 1,000s of fish and fishing in places where there were no fish, Paul decided that no one should have to go on such a death march again.
After 12 years fishing with the park’s volunteer fly fishing program and the past five on his own, Paul has put together a series of “X” marks the spot locations that any angler can find and have a reasonable chance to catch a Yellowstone/West Slope Cutthroat, and a few grayling as well. He’ll leave how and what to fish for them up to you and the local guides.

Paul Bunker is a West Denver TU member and considers Yellowstone National Park his “home” waters. After spending 20 years in the Air Force, and then another 20 at Eagle Claw Fishing Tackle here in Denver, Paul’s been filling his retirement days advocating for the park’s volunteer fly fishing program and working with the TU Native Trout Workgroup (TU NTWG) to help restore, conserve, and protect native trout, especially the Yellowstone Cutthroat (YCT). He was the TU NTWG lead person for the Get to Know Your Native YCT poster which he will have at the meeting.
