October Chapter Meeting, Dan Preston

October 6 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

The Effects of Wildfires on Trout and Stream Food Webs in the Colorado Rockies

We have all seen the burn scars, mudslides and runoff that result from forest fires. But what about the effects of fire on the food webs of rivers and streams? Dan spent the past year doing field work to determine the effects wildfires have had on the food trout rely on.  He will be presenting the knowledge he gained from his observations.

Dan Preston grew up in western Oregon where he learned to enjoy fishing, river trips, and other outdoor activities. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University and a PhD from the University of Colorado-Boulder. After working in Oregon, Idaho, and Wisconsin, he is now currently an assistant professor in the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. His research focuses on food-web ecology of freshwater lakes, ponds, and streams.
