March Chapter Meeting (Zoom)
March 3, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Speaker: Ron Belak
Topic: “Fly Fishing the Backcountry of Argentina, Alaska, and Colorado without Busting your Butt”
Ron Belak will discuss places to go and how to fish without having to expend the physical exertion often associated with forays into the backcountry. The backcountry allows anglers to get away from the crowds while enjoying spectacular scenery and catching some large trout. The alternative to long hikes, of course, is horses, drift boats, and airplanes. Ron will walk, or perhaps motorize us through locations to fish in the Flat Tops of Colorado, the Patagonia region of Argentina, and the Kenai Peninsula and Lake Iliamna areas of Alaska.
Ron Belak is an award-winning writer and photographer from Evergreen. He has fished the Colorado backcountry as an adult for over 40 years and has also fished backcountry locations in Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Alaska, British Columbia, Alberta, and Argentina. He is a frequent contributor to Colorado Outdoors magazine and the author of the how-to the book “Fly Fishing Colorado’s Backcountry,” available through his website at www.ronbelak.com. Ron is working on a second book, “The Fishing Guide to 800 High Lakes in Colorado,” which describes trails to and fishing conditions at over 800 high-mountain lakes in Colorado’s backcountry. It is due for release in April.
