March Chapter Meeting
March 4, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Tying Corner kicks off at 6:30 pm. Guest Tier: Vinny Pachelli
Speaker: CSU Scholarship Recipient Wendy Lanier
Wendy Lanier grew up just outside of the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas. From a very young age, she was utterly fascinated by the complexity and beauty of the life in the forests and rivers. Her fascination became more focused and directed when she learned that the wonders that she found there could be understood through the science of ecology.
Wendy says, “I fell in love with Fort Collins the first time I visited and from then on I devoted much of my energy into getting into the Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology department… I want nothing more in life than to continue to conduct ecological research that has direct application to the conservation of imperiled species”.
Wendy will be discussing her research involving how to manage both boreal toad and greenback cutthroat trout species, given that their conservation strategies might be in conflict. Her results will determine if greenback cutthroat trout should be introduced into areas where boreal toads breed or, conversely, if new boreal toad populations should be established in water bodies with trout.
Vinny Pachelli has been tying flies from the tender age of 12 years old. He received a fly tying kit for Christmas from his dad in hopes of saving the family a little money on fishing trips, but instead created a monster. Vinny has been affiliated with Golden River Sports in Golden, CO since it’s inception. He teaches fly tying and fly fishing, guides, and works in the shop. He’ll be tying a midge pattern using a copper scrubbing pad (the C.S.P. Midge) as well as a new spin on the Wooly Bugger.
Chapter Meetings are now at The American Mountaineering Center (AMC). Reminder: Parking for the AMC is on the north side of the building. There will be signs pointing the way to the meeting room.
